Combines rhythm, classical jazz styles, and the African-American experience

Liturgical

Worship through dance. (may include thanksgiving, praise, pageantry, etc...)

Detroit original dance form that incorporates rhythm, footwork, music.

The art, science, history, and elegance of this Egyptian/ Middle Eastern dance form.


Basic

  • Ages 2 and up

    *Ages 2-3 Adult must attend and participate with the child

  • Classes ages 2-7 are based on age-appropriate learning. Students develop listening skills, motor skills, rhythm, group dynamics, cognitive skills/choreography/memory skills, following directions, etc.

    Toddler Time, Mommy and Me, Daddy and Me

    ages 2-3 (30 minutes)

    Introduction to Dance

    ages 4-5 (45 minutes)

    Pre- Dance

    ages 6-7 (50 minutes)

    Level 1, 1a - 2, 2a

    ages 8 up (60 minutes)

    All class offerings in the basic/beginning level, for ages 8 and older.

Intermediate

  • for ages 10 and up

    *applicants must enroll through recommendation or audition

  • The Intermediate class is designed for dancers who have a good dance foundation and are ready for more technical, choreographical, and artistic challenges. Many dancers in intermediate are moving towards the pre-professional level.

    The Intermediate class(es) meet for 1 hour per week, per subject, with additional time added as needed. Intermediate dancers are invited to Pre-professional Labs as they are ready to understudy dance repertoire. Intermediate dancers may be invited to dance outside the basic studio programs and performances.

    Intermediate classes can be level 1, 2, 3, or workshops depending on the skill level achieved by the dancer.

    Intermediate classes include all of the classes offered at DWDA. Students have a choice of Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Jit, Tap, Lyrical, Liturgical, Modern, Dancer I.Q., Contemporary, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, etc.

Advanced

  • Ages 10 and up

    *applicants must enroll through recommendation or audition

  • The advanced dance levels are geared for serious dancers who are focused on continued dance training to hone and develop skills. These dancers have mastered skill, vocabulary and artistry.

    Advanced classes run from 1-2 hours

    Advanced classes are held for all dance disciplines.

    Students have a choice of all class offerings; Ballet, Hip-Hop , Jazz, Jit, Tap, Lyrical, Liturgical, Modern, Dancer I.Q, Contemporary, Pre-Pointe, Pointe, etc.

    The Pre-professional program is an advanced level program and students must audition for the 4-tiered program.
